About Claudia Petley

Claudia Petley has been an Artist Blacksmith for over 25 years.

Claudia works on her designs to the smallest detail until the whole piece is balanced. She particularly considers nature and classical proportions and tries to reflect this same harmony in her work. "almost everything I do is put through the fire and forged in some way". Claudia will forge steel to a fine point, then scroll, curl or knot it to "reveal just how pliable the material is by what can be done with it". She also Plaits and rivets metal, preferring traditional forging techniques, combining decoration with function.

Claudia specialises in Repousse work, exemplified in the lion and unicorn centrepiece she made for the gates of Kensington Palace.

Recent work has reflected Claudia`s passion of wild life and gardening to produce outdoor sculptures, often combining forged steel with repousse. she is currently developing a series of wire animal sculptures and an example of this is a full size Ryeland sheep for Leominster town centre.

Claudia`s work shows elegance and precision. her instinct and feel for her chosen material turns a coarse, lifeless piece of steel into something animate and tactile. Her work ranges from small interior items to large architectural commissions.

Customer comment on 'Beautiful Nails - Commissioned' by Shaun Gagg
The sculptures arrived in the meantime and on weekend I brought them home to my private house/garden.

They arrived in a perfect condition and when I have opened them I was speechless Shaun, they look great.

I got the picture from you where I could see them before but in reality they look much more better !!! JJJ

I am really happy thank you so much that you made them for me.

They will get a perfect place in my garden ... [Read more]
